Bridgehead Compliance Manager, Larisa Arcaleanu

How did you get into this industry?

I joined the Munnelly Group in May 2020 as a logistics administrator for Munnelly Support Services on the Embassy Gardens project. During my time on the project, my interest in construction and my motivation to understand the roles of all the intra-functional teams kept growing from day one.

In June 2021, I was offered the opportunity to join the Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) department of Bridgehead Consultancy as SHEQ Support. Then, after a year in my role, I was promoted to Compliance Manager …
What a journey!

What is your favourite part about your role?

My favourite part of my role is helping people connect the dots between procedures and the day-to-day work they do. I also enjoy taking something that could feel complicated or overwhelming—like audits—and turning it into clear and practical steps that make the work easier.

Did you always want to go into this industry/role? If not, what was your childhood dream?

Since I was a child, I always imagined myself working in a role where I could solve problems and help others. I love children and thought I would like to work with them—this led me to gain a degree for teaching in my home country of Romania.

However, having a natural eye for detail and a genuine interest in how systems and processes work, it led me to quality and compliance management. I enjoy how it combines structure, problem-solving, and people skills. Also, at the end of the day, all adults are children in their souls, so it’s still my vocation!

Did your previous role influence your skills or behaviours towards this role?

Yes, very much. Teaching gave me strong communication and people skills as I learned how to explain complex topics in a way that others can easily understand and apply. My time as a logistics administrator homed in on my skills for attention to detail and organisation. It taught me the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

What does a typical day look like for you?

My day usually involves a mix of planned work and unexpected challenges. I might start with reviewing reports and documents or following up on ongoing audits. Then I can spend time talking with teams to ensure processes are being followed correctly. No two days are exactly the same, but that variety keeps the role interesting.

What is the most challenging aspect of your role?

People often see compliance as restrictive, so it takes patience and strong communication to show them that compliance is about protecting them and the environment, and that clear procedures make their jobs easier.

Favourite project that you have worked on in your career so far?

Embassy Gardens was my favourite project as it was a large and complex development. Being part of it gave me valuable insight into how compliance, logistics, and quality processes all come together on a major site.

What are your career goals/priorities?

My goal is to continue growing as a compliance leader who adds real value to the business. I want to strengthen my expertise in creating procedures that are both efficient and practical, while also mentoring others to see compliance not just as rules, but as tools that enable success.

What kind of hobbies do you enjoy outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy activities that help me recharge. I love spending time outdoors, whether it’s walking, hiking, or just being in nature—it helps me clear my mind. And of course, time with my family is always a priority.

What is one thing you can’t live without?

I can’t live without my family, especially my daughter. No matter how busy or challenging work can be, spending time with her gives me balance and motivation. My family are the reason I push myself to do well and to keep growing in my career.

What is one piece of advice you would give to someone starting a similar career/role?

My advice would be to stay open-minded and trust yourself. Coming from Romania with only teaching experience and building a career in a different industry here—along with learning a different language—I know how important is to adapt and learn quickly.

Never be afraid to ask questions! And don’t be discouraged by the challenges – they often turn out to be the best opportunities for growth.
