Planning for success in construction logistics: An interview with Aidan Keys

We recently caught up with Aidan Keys, the Senior Construction & Logistics Planner at Bridgehead Consultancy, to talk about his role, experience, and career journey.
With 12 years in the industry, Aidan has built a strong reputation for solving complex logistics challenges and playing a key role in developing the consultancy’s offering.

What’s your favourite part about your role?

“I always think of logistics planning like finding the right pieces of a puzzle and putting them together to ensure the project will be successful. I enjoy this element of my job the most, as every project has different constraints — so while the solutions may be similar, they’re always slightly different.”

How did you get into this industry?

“I left college without a clear idea of what I wanted to do next. I started working on a Mace project for Mace Logistics as a delivery administrator and eventually got the opportunity to move into their head office. That’s where I began producing planning documents for their projects, and things took off from there.”

Did you always want to go into this industry or role?

“I’ve always had a massive passion for sports science and thought I might do something in that space. But I never had a clear vision for what that would actually look like, so I didn’t pursue it. Logistics wasn’t on the radar at the start, but it’s been a great journey.”

What is the most challenging aspect of your role?

“Business development and bringing in new clients. It’s a different skill set from logistics planning, but it’s essential for growing the consultancy.”

What are your career goals or priorities?

“My aim is to make Bridgehead Consultancy an industry-recognised name for construction logistics planning and ensure the business unit becomes commercially self-sufficient from the Munnelly Group.”

Did your previous roles influence your skills or behaviours in this one?

“Absolutely. Every role I’ve had has helped shape the way I work today. While the industry is constantly evolving, the knowledge and behaviours I’ve picked up along the way form the foundation I continue to build on. I’m always looking to grow and improve — both for my own development and to help Bridgehead Consultancy succeed for years to come.”

What has been your favourite project to work on?

“I really enjoyed the complexity of Battersea Power Station and Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium. Those were great challenges to be part of.”

Have you seen any significant changes in the industry since you started?

“When I first started, logistics was often dismissed as ‘just an operative and a broom.’ Now it’s recognised for the essential services it brings to contractors. There’s also been a big shift toward off-site impact, pedestrian safety, and environmental responsibility — particularly through initiatives like CLOCS. Those have made a huge difference.”

What does a typical day look like for you?

“Honestly? I don’t think I’ve had a ‘typical day’ in years. We work across so many projects and offer a wide variety of services — every day is different.”

What kind of hobbies do you enjoy outside of work?

“I love going on walks with my fiancée and daughter. We often do weekend staycations around the country to explore new places. Spending time with family and catching up with friends is really important to me. I also hit the gym regularly — it helps keep me motivated and balanced.”

What is one thing you can’t live without?

“Structure. As much as I wish I could be more impulsive, I’m completely lost without structure in my life.”

What advice would you give someone starting a similar career or role?

“When people say, ‘there’s no such thing as a silly question,’ they really mean it. Be curious, ask questions, and never stop learning.”
